Ford Sync Setup (OEM microphone/Aux/USB)

Post by Phatcat » Sun Oct 08, 2017 11:32 pm

Hello. I have a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid w/sync, no nav (base). On order via Crutchfield I have an Alpine ILX-207 (carplay) and the Maestro RR with FO1. Existing setup is an older alpine with an Alpine SXV200 XM tuner which I will continue to use even though the Maestro will allow me to use my OEM XM tuner.

1) The OEM microphone is preferred to integrate with the Alpine's phone BT and voice commands. Is there a way to use the OEM mic vs running the Alpine Mic?

2) If I'm playing an audio source via Sync Aux in or Sync USB, is the audio pushed via the aftermarket (Alpine) amp or OEM amp? Is it just best to try to use the Alpine's sources/inputs whereever possible vs Sync?

3) Any issues/tips setting up the Alpine Voice command via Maestro?

Thx!
Mark

1) Because there are two complete bluetooth systems in the vehicle, this is not possible. If you pair to Sync, it will use the Sync microphone. If you wish to use Alpine's features, such as bluetooth and CarPlay, you must use their microphone.

2) The audio from Sync goes in through the Aux input of the alpine, then the Alpine plays the audio out to the OEM audio system, the same way it does with all the other sources.

3) Make sure you have Voice/Siri set up as one of your steering wheel commands and it should work just fine.

Thanks Dara. That's helpful.

I'm now in process of prepping the F01 and Maestro RR kit as I ready everything for installing this weekend along with a Kenwood DDX9904s. Although I have Sync, I have decided not to use it at all, however the installation instructions under step 2 state the following:

Part 1:

Connect the PINK/RED wire of FO1 T-harness to the SWI 2
INPUT wire going to the steering wheel. Insulate the wire
side going to the SYNC module and plug the SYNC harness
into the SYNC module.

If I'm not using Sync do I need to connect to the SYNC module. I only intend on using steering wheel controls and vehicle features listed below.

Part 2:

Curious if I need to do the programming below if I'm just using the following Ford Features:
Steering Wheel Control
Gauges
Vehicle Info
(I'm not using the OEM BT)

MODULE PROGRAMMING
• Open the vehicle driver door, insert the key into the ignition
and turn it to the ACC position.
• The OEM Bluetooth is OFF by default. To activate it, go to
the radio screen, scroll down to FORD SETUP, press SET,
go to the OEM Bluetooth and press ON, then Press the
BACK button (circular shaped arrow).
• Scroll down, press FINISH and wait. Press START, then
press NEXT.
• Now follow the radio screen instructions while performing
the following steps: Turn the key to the OFF position, then
to the ACC position, turn it back to the OFF position, then
to the ACC position.
The module is now programmed and ready to be used. To
access the new menus, press on FORD FEATURES.

If you want your phone/voice buttons on the steering wheel to work at all, you MUST hook up this wire.

Yes, this is required. The radio will prompt you and tell you what to do. Just follow along with the steps until it says "setup complete".
