2013 WRX w/SU1 and 4200NEX

Post by ikerex » Mon Jan 08, 2018 4:02 pm

Hi - I recently upgraded to the SU1 harness (previously had just the standard Maestro RR harness wired up). I decided I wanted to switch to the SU1 because it supposedly has the capability to display TPMS voltages on my Pioneer 4200NEX.

Anyway, I installed the SU1 harness the other night and reflashed my Maestro RR to the right firmware, and the TPMS display does not work. It just says N/A for all of my tires. Did I wire something incorrectly? The only wire I didn't hook up is the one coming off of the OBD2 cable (purple/white connecting to a brown/yellow on the passenger kick panel). I didn't hook this one up because it said something about Rev Signal Input MT on the tag on the wire, and I didn't think I needed that since I don't have a backup cam.
Do I need to hook this up to get TPMS display? Or does TPMS display not work with my car? Thanks.

For the record, car is a 2013 WRX Limited (without NAV) and deck is a Pioneer 4200NEX. Thanks.

The reverse wire isn't necessary for the TPMS to work. However, it is necessary to hook the OBD2 plug up to the vehicle.

I have an 11 WRX and was a beta tester for this firmware. It should definitely be working. In these vehicles, the tire sensors do have to wake up, and that can take a few minutes of driving for that to happen.

Huh, I have the OBD2 plug hooked up and am getting full readings on all my gauges, and the door alarm is working too (without the reverse wire hooked up). Just to confirm, the wire I'm talking about is shown in this photo: Image

I'll check the TPMS on my way home from work after driving a few minutes. Thanks.

Tried the TPMS on the way home from work yesterday, drove for 25 minutes and it still didn't work..just giving me N/A on each tire.
Later today, I will try and wire up the wire I didn't hook up (shown in the diagram above) and see if that fixes it.

It sounds like the RR might not have initialized properly. Let's try resetting the RR through the radio's Vehicle/OEM setup menu. When the radio boots back up after the reset, there should be a platform selection screen that pops up. Let's make sure that the platform selection completes successfully, or the TPMS might not read properly.

OK - so I tried resetting the RR module through the radio OEM setup menu. It seemed to reset perfectly fine, and the platform selection seemed to work. It said "platform 111-620".
After all this, still not getting an TPMS signal. FYI, I still haven't hooked the purple/white wire to the brown/yellow in the passenger kick panel. I tried to over the weekend, but I couldn't find the brown/yellow wire in the passenger kick panel. There are tons of wires in there, and I had bad lighting, so I just gave up. Do you think that could be the main reason my TPMS display is not working? All the other functions seem to be working fine, gauges included. Here is a photo of the gauges info screen:

The reverse wire has absolutely nothing to do with the TPMS. Let me do a little more digging and see what's going on.

Thanks. It'd be nice to get it fixed, since thats the whole reason I upgraded to the SU1 harness. I had gauge functionality before upgrading to the SU1, and I thought i'd gain TPMS if I upgraded.

When you view the TPMS screen, is it still showing up as N/A ? Also, does your door status show correctly for all doors on the vehicle info screen (or does it say 'Door Ajar')? Do you have the red 2 pin connectors plugged together?

Sorry for not posting an update for so long.....anyway...

I decided to pull the Maestro out and check everything. I have confirmed everything is set up just as described in the installation manual, and I'm still not getting TPMS info. I do get the "door ajar" message, but all the tires still just say N/A, even after driving for an hour or so. Could it be an issue with my Pioneer 4200NEX?

Do you have any other suggestions? I'd still like to get this working. Thanks.

Looking back on the thread, i'm not sure i got the answer to one of my last questions. I understand that you get the "Door Ajar" message, but does the screen show which door is opened, when you open one?

When you look at the vehicle info screen, does the TPMS light on your gauge cluster flash?

Something to try:
Reset the RR; this can be done in the OEM Setup menu. Then, turn the key off, then back on, but only to the accessory position. Go into the vehicle info screen, and then turn the ignition to on. At this point, if it's a data error, you shouldn't see the door status or tpms.

Also, just to be sure...Do you have anything else connected to the OBD2?

I get the door ajar message, but it doesn't show which door is opened. The TPMS light in my gauge cluster does not flash at all when I go to the vehicle info screen, and I get no TPMS data.

I have a Cobb Accessport, and occasionally I attach it to my OBD2, but it's not currently attached, the only thing attached is the SU1 harness.

I tried what you suggested yesterday, I got a new message on the vehicle info screen, it first said "Initialization is Failing BCM", then that went away and it said "Initialization is failing TPMS". I'm attaching a few photos of those messages, and what the vehicle info screen looks like when a door is open.

I'm thinking I may pull the Maestro, do a factory reset on it, and re-flash the firmware. Is that worth trying??

Two things:
-Your photos don't show up. I don't think they're set to be viewed by the public.
-What you're describing sounds like the gray/red K-line wire isn't communicating at all.

So how would I go about trying to fix that? Maybe try directly wiring that into the ODB2 connection? Bypass the plug?
