2007 Honda Civic speaker noise

Post by Dagriff1997 » Wed Dec 27, 2017 9:42 pm

Hi! I have a 2007 Honda Civic EX coupe with the premium audio system. ( 6 speakers with factory subwoofer ). I have a static noise. Or so I believe it’s static. When the vehicle is in accessory mode, I get no noise what so ever. Sounds great. Once I turn the vehicle into the run position ( or on ) I get a buzz, and then the car will start a chatter like sound. Not too loud, but it’s in every single speaker. I am not sure where to start the troubleshooting, but I want it fixed! Help me please 😭

Are you using the OEM amplifier? Does this sound occur in all sources (FM, CD, bluetooth, etc.)?

The maestro doesn't process any of the audio; it simply goes out of the radio to the amplifier, then to the speakers. Something makes me think the audio coming out of the deck may be producing the noise.

Yes I’m using the OEM amplifier. It’s there in all sources. It goes away when I turn the ignition off, so I’m not quite sure if it’s interference or something. I was thinking about the RCAs causing the interference so I would cut them off but if I do that wouldn’t I lose my “premium” audio system by using the traditional wires on my radio harness?

Sending high-level voltage isn't a good idea. If a car is designed to accept low-level voltage (RCA input), you run the risk of damaging your amp and having screaming loud, distorted audio.

So.... I’m not sure how to battle this issue. Do I have JVC warranty the radio out and see if that fixes it first?

Before you go there, try giving the radio a new ground. Apparently it's not uncommon for amplified Civics to have noise like this.

So should I do away with the ground from the maestro’s harness and make my own for the car?

Here’s a link for a video of the noise that I recorded.

We're just using the factory-provided ground for the radio circuit. I recommend removing it, and re-grounding all of it to see if the noise might be ground related.

Also, try unplugging the OBD2 connector from the car and let's see if the noise goes away.

Gotcha. I will try that tomorrow and update to see if that fixes anything. I posted that video to better describe the noise I’m hearing. Thank you!

Then it's probably the radio causing the noise.

So should I try the new ground then or contact JVC for a warranty?

Tried new ground, buzz or hum reduced tremendously, but I still have the tick like noise in the speakers. When I unplug all RCA from the radio, it gets louder and is more noticeable in the front.
