2016 Avalon w/JBL, JVC KW-M730BT audio outs

Post by skovatch » Fri Feb 16, 2018 1:10 am

Hi,

I am replacing the factory stereo in my 2016 Avalon Hybrid with a JVC KW-M730BT, and I have the iDatalink Maestro RR and TO-2 harness. I'm planning to use the 'with JBL' setup, so I can just use the RCA plugs on the TO-2 harness.

But as I look at the back of the headunit, I see 3 RCA audio output pairs. Which one should I use? Or should I forget it and just use the hardwired speaker wire pairs (gray, white, purple, green)? It seems like if I did this, though, I would be giving up the factory amplifier, which feels like a waste.

Thanks,
Scott K.

If the vehicle is factory equipped with JBL, you use the RCAs and plug them into the FL and FR outputs of the radio.

Thanks, the problem for me is that the head unit outputs aren't labelled 'front' and 'rear'. They have "tweeter", "mid-range", and "subwoofer".

I suppose I could experiment but it would be unfortunate to lose all the sound from the radio. Or would all the outputs be the same?

That is WEIRD. I would say, for best results, hook it up to the mid and adjust the crossover to get as much full range signal as you can.

Okay, thanks. I'll try putting it all together this weekend and report back. I'm not enough of an audiophile that I would likely notice the sound differences, but we'll see.

It turns out the manual is lying. The back of the stereo says "front", "rear" and "subwoofer", so I just used the front outputs and everything sounds great!

I also got everything working on the first try! Factory backup camera and XM antenna, powered antenna booster, and Apple CarPlay, which was the whole point of this exercise. Having the tire pressure display and other gauges are a nice bonus, too.

Thanks for making such an easy-to-setup product! I'm very tempted to give up on the PAC I bought for my daughter's Hyundai and just get another Maestro.
