2016 RAV4 Hybrid Limited with Tech Package

Post by mattcoarr » Sat Apr 02, 2016 12:15 am

I'm looking at getting the brand new 2016 RAV4 Hybrid Limited with Technology Package.

Will I be able to retain the various features of the OEM system, particularly the birds eye view camera? And will they be triggered automatically in the same way as the OEM system? (like when I go to park)

How are the native car features surfaces in the aftermarket radio? Is there a mode to see the native car's computer screens or is this UI redone in the GUI of the aftermarket stereo?

I'm looking for something from Pioneer, Kenwood, etc. My main reason is that I really want Apple Carplay and Android Auto. (I really wish Toyota would get with the times and start offering this!!!)

Thanks!
Matt

If you use a 2016 iDatalink compatible Kenwood, we retain the cameras, and the in-radio vehicle settings.

Hi, I'm interested in this as well and just want confirmation\clarification. I was looking at getting the Kenwood dnx893s.
we retain the cameras
So you get the front camera as well when you are driving forwards at low speeds? What about the birds eye view?

Not just the rear view backup camera?
in-radio vehicle settings.
That includes door lock, light, climate, and park assist settings? Does it include the hybrid energy monitor?

Thanks!

Yes, we also retain the front camera, but there is a little additional wiring that has to be done to make it function. it is not in the install guide, so if you want to do it, I can email the info to you.

So the front camera is possible but I assume the rest of the birds eye view isn't retained? I would figure as much as that is probably a bit complex... I'll send you a pm with my email as I'm interested in what the process is before I move forward.

Hi mattcoarr,

Did you end up going through with this upgrade? Were you able to retain the birds eye camera? As you mention, it's a bit complex, as it is controlled by on-screen "buttons"

Thanks!

Hello M. DeGrand,

I have searched here for an answer to the general question, “Is Toyota’s Birds Eye retained?” I was unable to locate a definitive answer. I hope you will assist.

Below is my intent for your consideration

Existing vehicle and AV/Navigation device: Jensen radio in a 2018 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Limited-Platinum V6 AWD-i.
Intended AV/Navigation device: Kenwood Excelon DNX995S
Interface as required: Maestro Audio / Navigation interface

I will appreciate the information you offer on the additional wiring, not included in the install guide, and any other information and suggestions that you may offer. Please E-mail jon dot seee at gmail dot com.

Is possible to retain Birds Eye?
If Birds Eye is not possible now, will firmware updates allow Birds Eye in the future (estimated date)?

Thank you for your consideration.

I believe you were working with someone at crutchfield? I emailed them the wiring information.

Kinda bringing this back from the dead.

@Dara DeGrand
I would like to replace my factory radio (shopping for Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, etc...anything compatible with idatalink really)

Just like the OP, the only thing holding me back is finding a way to retain my factory JBL amp and factory 360 camera function (atleast most of its functions)

My car is a 17' Highlander Lt Platinum

I'm familiar with installing headunits and performing basic electrical work on wiring and harness modifications.

Thanks!

See this link: viewtopic.php?f=406&t=18040

The document is found on that thread.

You only have to do this modification IF YOU HAVE A HARNESS V1.6 OR OLDER.
If your harness is newer, you shouldn't have to do the wiring listed in the document, as it is already done for you on the t harness.
