Toyota Avalon 2005 gauges

Post by gleep52 » Mon Jan 18, 2016 5:28 pm

So I flashed my firmware with a 2006 because technically the 2005 isn't on the list to choose from. I found the three wires for the remote control to work (and it works beautifully!) on the secondary radio connector. I used the AXXESS ASWC-1 module previously but it didn't have a pause function or have support for the gauges as the 2006 Toyota Avalon Maestro RR unit does...

I found pin 6 (pink) and 14 (white) on the service connector and attached the brown/red and brown/yellow wires respectively as the instructions state - but the gauges all say disconnected on my Kenwood DDX9702S headunit. Also, the brake light, traction control, and two other lights are on now on the instrument cluster/dash. When I disconnect the two pins on the service connector, those lights go away...

Am I doing anything wrong, or does the 2005 really not work even though it's pretty identical to the 2006 model?

2005 is not listed because it is different, which is why it's not covered.

Well the steering wheel controls work... :)

Any chance at gaining support in the future? The gauges on my headunit are fracking fantastic - I'd love to use them...

Any ideas how it is different or a way to make it compatible via an accessory or extra module?

Buy a 2006 avalon and it will work.

Kidding aside.... it's not covered, because the data wires in the 2005 model do not send the information to display gauges. It's not a lack of compatibility on our end, it's just how the vehicle was made.

I wish I could get a 2006 ;) But my 2005 is absolutely awesome. I'll just keep it in mind when upgrading cars in the future.

Just a thought - idatalink could add support for just steering wheel controls for the 2005. Crutch field told me it wouldn't work, but it DOES work, just not for the gauges. Might make some more people happy since the only alternative is the AXXESS module which was really flaky. Cheers!
