2015 Ram 2500 install preparation

Post by B Anonymous » Thu Jun 04, 2015 5:50 pm

I am going to replace my uConnect 3.0 radio with a Kenwood DNX571HD head unit in my 2015 Ram 2500. After reading some reviews on the Maestro system I ordered the Maestro Rr and CH3. In prepping for the install, I had a couple of questions concerning the backup camera signal and the reverse feed. The truck is equipped with a backup camera in the mirror. Your installation instructions for the CH3 shows a connection for both the camera and reverse signal in the wiring diagram with the camera having an RCA plug and the reverse feed as a purple/white lead. I’m not sure that the factory harness has that. If it does that’s great and less work for me. If not, will I have to bring those connections in separately?

Also, I’m not sure how the system is connected to the OBD-II port to bring in the vehicle operating information. It’s not clear from the wiring diagram as I see nothing on the RR module that plugs into the OBD-II port.

Yes. You may have to splice the video feed at the mirror and run it down.

You do not need to splice the OBDII (it states that connection is not required). Less work for you. :)

OK that helps. After studying the wiring diagrams for the truck I see there is a "camera signal", "camera return" and "Camera Shield". I'm assuming the signal and shield are spliced into an RCA connector for my Kenwood receiver and the return is the power from the reverse or backup circuit. Am I on the right track?

You should just need the signal and return.
