2011 Grand Cherokee Install

Post by codenamedmar » Fri Apr 08, 2016 9:36 pm

I started my install today and I have a few questions.

First, here are the specs:

Maestro RR firmware ADS-RR(SR)-CHR01-DS (512) (2.8 ) with: CH1, AVCH1, and SAT1
Pioneer AVH-X2700BS Firmware 8.31
Factory Backup camera
No Factory Amp
Factory SWC with phone buttons

I connected the wiring harnesses as instructed but I didn't get some of feature retention I though I was supposed to have. Also, some of the pioneer menus for idatalink seem to be partial or missing altogether i.e; OEM vs aftermarket bluetooth for phone call.

The backup cam isn't working (side note, there were no instructions for the AVCH1, but I assume the second factory harness attaches to it and the ground I just spliced in with the radio harness)

Also, is there another adapter I need in order to use the the factory USB port in the center armrest, or do I lose that?

The SAT1 isn't installed yet, but I assume that is pretty self explanatory, I just need a tuner.

Sorry if these seem like dumb questions, this is my first rodeo with the maestro.

What features are you missing? If you're not getting the option to choose between uConnect and the aftermarket stereo for bluetooth, the module is either flashed incorrectly, or the uConnect is built into the oem radio and cannot be retained.

What was the 3 letter code on the front of your factory radio?

Did the reverse camera show up on the original radio, or did it show up somewhere else, like in the rear-view mirror?

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

So after further investigation I realize the problem may lie with UConnect itself.

The factory radio was an RBZ code. The reverse camera actually showed up later and is still working (I think that was just an aftermarket settings issue.)

It's weird though, so, according to the install guide since I have cables in the 19-22 pinout on the factory harness, I don't have a factory amp. But when I went to re-flash the module w/o factory amp retention, I got a error message saying there was one detected and would I like to add retention, from the aftermarket unit, so I did. Once I switched the green and white speaker plugs (from green to white and white to green, to green to green, white to white) sound only played through one speaker. So I switched it back and all the speakers work, but not my factory sub. Is that retainable?

I figured the factory USB port out in the center armrest, but since that runs through UConnect I don't want to keep it.

Really my issue now comes down to:

a.) I would like to keep my factory sub

and

b.) If I retain Uconnect, when I try for hands free calling, Uconnect will play the call through the speakers, but for some reason the factory mic doesn't work . If I don't retain Uconnect, the aftermarket radio mic works, but doesn't play sound through the speakers. They can't both be connected at the same time, can they?

Any insight into getting everything working is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

If you have a factory sub, then you do have an amplifier. Make sure that option is checked in your flash.

As far as uConnect goes, you cannot be paired at the same time as the radio; If the permissions are set incorrectly and both systems are paired to do handsfree calling, then the radio and uconnect module will conflict and act strangely, like you're describing.

Thanks Dara,

I'm pretty sure I have factory amp checked, but I will try to re-flash tonight when I get home.

I am going to remove Uconnect (again), and just use the aftermarket radio for calls and bluetooth audio and hopefully that will work.

FYI, you can keep the USB port in the center console. It's not tied to UConnect; you just need a female USB mini to male USB type-A adapter (I didn't realize I needed one until I had everything apart and was doing the installation in my 2012 Dodge Durango Citadel). It worked perfectly for me.
