2004 Touareg: no reverse signal, no OBD

Post by dionc » Fri Aug 10, 2018 12:49 am

Hi

I have recently installed a Maestro RR in a 2004 V8 Touareg. The steering wheel controls and parking brake signals work correctly, but I have two problems:

1. No reverse signal coming out of the Maestro.

2. "OBD2: Error 1" message on the gauge display. The "About Gauges" screen shows a "COM - LOST, CAN - SILENT" message.

I have tried resetting the Maestro several times.

Can anybody help with these issues?

Forgot to mention that the head unit is an Alpine ILX-107.

Since the OBD2 is reporting as silent, that means we don't see signal and there is no activity on the can lines. Based on the year of the vehicle, I suspect there is no diagnostic activity on the can lines where we're looking. Diagnostics did not become standard on those data lines until 2008, so it wouldn't surprise me if a vehicle this far before 2008 had their diagnostics sent on a proprietary system instead. I suspect the same thing for the reverse; if it's on the data lines, it's probably not a message on one where we are looking.
