back-up Camera don't work

Post by ko40528 » Sun Jun 03, 2018 2:08 pm

I have a 2015 Jeep Wrangler with an automatic transmission. It had a standard am/fm radio with CD. No uConnect, camera, or Bluetooth. I just have volume and channel controls on the steering wheel. I am installing a Pioneer AVH-2300NEX, Maestro AR, and Maestro CH1 wiring harness. I have connected all the wires from the CH1 to the Pioneer wiring harness matching colors as stated in AR instructions. The only two wires not connected on the CH1 are the brown and pink wires.

Right now when I put the ignition into ACC or start, I get the back-up camera on my Pioneer display. Not an actual image from the camera, but a black screen with back-up aiming lines. When I touch the X on the display the radio display is there and plays. When I shift into reverse, nothing happens.

Here is a wiring diagram that came with my camera. Image

I have plugged the yellow rca jack into the upper rigtht rca input on the Pioneer. I have not used the red reverse trigger line on the radio side of the yellow camera video cable. On the camera end, I plugged the yellow rca into the yellow camera rca. I have connected red wire from DC connector on camera to white/green stripe reverse light wire and black from DC connector on camera to a ground on the vehicle. I did not connect the red wire marked Reversing Lamp on the yellow video rca cable.

Anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?

You definitely powered your camera incorrectly- you might have hooked something up so that it's back-feeding to the reverse camera input on the radio and causing it to switch over. That's the only logical thing that could cause this.

looking at your diagram you attached i think we have something amiss as Dara has mentioned with regards to the camera being powered up. here is how i would wire the camera so that you get proper functionality out of it with your Pioneer radio.

-Black and Red on the camera will get extended and run all the way to the radio and connected to the radios ACC and ground wires (this will enable you to activate camera from the radio whenever you want by pressing the camera button).
-Run the camera RCA from the camera into the Pioneer's camera input (brown RCA input on the back of the radio) and do not connect the red wires on that RCA to anything just tape them off.

Also i see that you mentioned that you have only the Pink and Brown wires left over and not connected to anything. Please verify that the Yellow/Black is also not being used. if you have it connected to the Yellow/Black on the Pioneer radio please disconnect that as that is not a mute wire rather a foot brake output intended only for older Alpine radio's.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I disconnected the yellow/black wire, so I have three wires from the harness not connected. I plugged the yellow rca from the camera to the brown rca input on the radio. I hooked the red and black wire harness from the camera to the vehicle ACC red wire and black to the black ground. I am not hooking the Audio Cable labeled D on your wiring diagram to the Maestro module because I don't have an iDatalink audio connector on the Pioneer. I do have the datalink cable labeled H connected.

The Pioneer works because I get FM stations with audio. I can adjust volume and change channels from the steering wheel controls. I still get the camera display when I turn the radio on but no actual image from the camera. Just the back-up aiming lines. When I switch the Pioneer to camera view, I still do not get a camera view. Just a black screen. When I switch the automatic transmission to R, I get no display change. Stays on radio. Could there be something wrong with the Maestro box itself?

The only thing that should have been connected to the maestro's purple/white wire is the radio's purple/white. If you hooked anything else up to that, at any point, you could have damaged the maestro.

Going to wire up a backup camera to my unit next weekend. How should this be wired best. I believe I have 2 options.
I have Pioneer MVH-2300NEX, Maestro RR, CH1 harness

1 - Connect it to an Accessory power, just as the Cigarette Lighter and run it to the back. My concern is that this will cause the camera to always be on. OR will the camera on activated when the unit looks for a signal?

2 - Connect it direct into the stereo, thought is to connect the Red (Accessory) wire to the camera and the black to the ground, run both of those all the way to the back for the camera.

Thanks for the help,

Brian

Run the power and ground for the camera the the acc power and ground to the radio. this way you can activate the camera whenever the radio is powered on.

Thanks, so option 2, for my 2013 Wrangler, that is the Red (Accessory +) wire and the Black ground wire.

Thank you, the camera is working perfectly. Connect to Red Accessory wire and the black ground wire. It works great!
