Sync Issue - Pioneer AVH-2330NEX 2016 F250 XLT

Post by ScotD82 » Thu Oct 12, 2017 12:09 pm

I just installed a Pioneer AVH-2330NEX in my 2016 F250 XLT with the basic Sync functionality.

Everything works (Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, obdii info, etc), except the USB connection. When I plug my iPhone 7 Plus into the USB port, the artist and title of the song playing will show up, and the song will play for 1-3 seconds. After that, it switches to just saying No Device. I’ve tried this with multiple cords and multiple phones. I can’t get any CarPlay functionality, and I can’t make use of any of the phone features through sync USB, except for the couple of seconds of play before it loses the connection and the music stops.

Any ideas?

Which usb are you plugging into? The Sync USB, or the Pioneer USB?

CarPlay cannot be done through the Sync USB. Because that is a Pioneer feature, you need to connect directly to the Pioneer.

The Sync USB. Also I misspoke above. The Bluetooth works perfectly. The only issue is with sync usb based connections.

If you hit the voice button on your steering wheel, do you hear the Sync lady talking to you?

Yes. All other features seem to work fine.

Ok- so if you plug in your phone to the Sync USB, hit the voice button, and say USB, Sync should switch over to the Sync USB. The audio comes from the same place as her voice, so you shouldn't be missing any audio. Are you able to hear audio when you use the Sync AUX port or stream via bluetooth?

Bluetooth audio works fine.

It’s not that I can’t hear audio when I switch to usb, it’s that it recognizes the usb for only a second or two, plays the music for just a second or two, and then the music stops and the screen indicates that it no longer recognizes my device being connected. If I bounce over to Bluetooth, it picks back up fine. Then if I disable Bluetooth and switch to usb, it picks up and displays the song and artist and plays the music for a couple of seconds then stops and goes back to acting like I don’t have anything plugged in.

Were you able to hook this same phone to the Sync when you had the OEM radio? Also, just to confirm, you aren't trying to do CarPlay through the Sync USB, correct? As stated above, that isn't possible. I just wanted to make sure we're on the same page.

This is most likely something to do with the Sync module. I would recommend resetting it. To do that, you can either disconnect the sync module, at the passenger end of the dash, or disconnect the truck's batteries for 20-30 minutes.

The same phone did work previously.

The problem isn’t just that CarPlay won’t work. I can only play music for a couple of seconds at a time.

I agree that it sounds like a sync Issue. I found there is a syncupdate available (4.6). Maybe that will help.

So CarPlay will only work with the USB plugged directly into the pioneer?

Correct- CarPlay is a Pioneer feature, so in order for that to work, you need to have it connected to the Pioneer. When you're plugged into sync, the USB goes to the Sync module, not to the new radio, so there's no way for that information to be re-routed to the CarPlay USB input of the Pioneer.
