2014 Subary Outback ADS-MSW

Post by sung » Mon Feb 19, 2018 11:43 am

I'm installing JBL CP-100 in a 2014 Subaru Outback and using Maestro SW (ADS-MSW). The car does not have navigation but I'm not sure which trim to choose from: "Base", "Bluetooth" or "With Harman Kardon Bluetooth".

The option with the pins that match was the "With Harman Kardon Bluetooth", so I used this map the buttons. After installing, the volume down went to Recent calls page on the head unit. Volume up would increase and decrease the volume. The voice option acted like the hang up button. I'm not sure what seek up/down buttons were doing.

The I tried "Bluetooth". The volumn up went to recent calls page. Not sure what volume down was doing. It seems to select something on the screen. Seek down was volume up and Mode was volume down.

I haven't tried "Base" yet since I want to use the phone buttons.

Does anyone know if I'm using the right settings?

It could be an issue with the radio's protocol, too, since we don't list or cover JBL radios.

When you press each button on the steering wheel, how many blinks do you get on the light of the SW? This will tell me if it's flashed correctly or not.

I bought the JBL CP100 because it was listed as compatible.

Here is what is happening when I tried today:

Vol up: scans radio 1 green blink
Vol down: scans radio, goes to recent calls screen - 2 green blinks
Select up: Next track, goes to recent calls page - 4 green blinks
Select down: Goes to recent calls page, volume up - 5 green blinks
Mode: volume down - 2 green blinks
Voice: nothing happens - 3 red blinks
Phone up: nothing happens - 2 red blinks
Phone down: nothing happens - 1 red blink

Are you using an interface to retain your OEM amplifier? If so, it sounds like there is a conflict with it. Let's make sure that nothing is connected to the steering wheel wires in the car except for the maestro module. On some interfaces, they pin wires in those locations and they can interact with the maestro and cause it to not detect the button presses correctly.

If you find that your interface has wires pinned on the steering wheel wires, let's snip them and tape them off, so that nothing is hooked to the steering wheel wires except for the maestro.

Yes, I will be using the OEM amplifier. I tried the buttons with only the Maestro connected. Here are what the lights did:
  • Vol up - 1 green blink
Vol down - 2 green blinks
Seek up - 4 green blinks
Seek down - 5 green blinks
    Mode - 3 green blinks
    Voice - 3 red blinks
Phone up - 2 red blinks
Phone down - 1 red blink

The blinks you're getting are correct for your vehicle- the SW is detecting the button presses properly. There has to be something problematic in the protocol of the radio, or perhaps the steering wheel controls have to be configured in a menu inside the radio? Have you tried contacting JBL support about this?

We have only had 3 other people flash for this radio and no calls about it, so it's hard to say what the issue is for sure.

There's no mapping setup in the head unit. JBL sent me here.
