Flash it as an iLX-007.

The iLX-007 will NOT ask you for a serial number. You cannot choose the 107 or 207, or you will get prompted for a serial number.

Marco,
That will not work because you don't have an iDatalink port on the back of your radio. This is why we aren't able to support EU head units.

I have pushed a test firmware to your account. To use hit, hit "flash your module", select the "flash by user firmware" tab, and then pick the firmware that's waiting for you. Select the iLX-007, proceed with your flash, and give it a try. See attached for the install guide.

Hi,

I'm in the same boat but with a 2008 VW Passat R36. I'll try the 107 firmware like you suggested, failing that is it possible for me to access that test firmware as well? Our cars are pretty similar so I might fluke it. I'm in AU if that makes a difference.

Cheers.

The Audi firmware won't work very well with a VW. You can flash it as a Passat, but choose the iLX-007 when you select a radio. That's the closest we can get you in this case.

Thank you for the info.

I don't have the option to choose the iLX-007 in the dropdown menu for firmware flashing, I have the same choices as the guy above. I selected 'other - with bluetooth' and that seems to work ok for audio, but no steering wheel controls yet.

The wiring guide says to use the wire with a 3.5mm headphone plug/single greenish colour wire for the connection between RR and Alpine unit (not sure what the green wire is for but there is a spot for the headphone plug).

I don't see any connection in the diagram for the signal coming from the steering wheel. Are the factory SW remote buttons bluetooth? I haven't identified a wire for that signal at all so far, I'm trying to source a pinout for the big factory combo plug so I can investigate it further.

Thanks again.

That option should work as well. You don't use the light blue wire, but the black plug on that connector needs to be plugged into the steering wheel control input on the back of the Alpine.

Does the light on the maestro flash when you press a button on the steering wheel? If so, we are properly sensing the button presses. At that point, it would seem that you don't have the steering wheel control plug connected properly.

The steering wheel controls don't have a dedicated wire, as they are sent over the data lines.

Thanks so much for your help.

Steering wheel remote buttons are working now.

My one final issue is regarding the powering up of the Alpine screen. I haven't connected an ACC wire yet because I don't believe my factory unit required one and therefore there isn't one available amongst the existing wiring in that part of the dash (that I can find).

The factory nav/media unit would turn off when I removed the key from the ignition, the Alpine screen is unaffected by the vehicle ignition and can only be powered on/off manually via the power Botton on the front. Even when it is 'off' I can still hear the fan inside going and if I leave it like that my battery goes flat after a day or so.

Was the factory unit power on/off possibly controlled via the data lines?
Is there a more appropriate firmware that I could be running which would rectify this?
Or do I need to run an ACC wire from somewhere else in order to power the unit correctly?

I'm seriously considering just buying the US model ilx-207 Alpine unit. It seems like the easiest solution to retain all the factory features!

Yes, the factory radio turned on/off with data. This is why we don't support vehicles outside of North America. There is a chance that things are different in the car, and that certain features may not work. At that point, we don't have access to a european version of the vehicle to test and fix it.
